"Koliba" on Łapsowa Glade

"Koliba" on Łapsowa Polana is a lodging facility located in the Gorce Mountains, at an altitude of 860 meters above sea level on the southern slopes of Bukowina Obidowska. The main history of this place dates back to 1968, when it began operating as a tourist shelter run by the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society (PTTK). In the 1970s, it functioned as a branch of the PTTK shelter on Turbacz, offering up to 34 overnight accommodations and a buffet with a dining area. The facility also had an educational dimension, as it hosted laboratory classes for the Agricultural Education School Complex in Nowy Targ. After changes in management, in December 2016, the Nowy Targ Municipality announced a tender for the lease of the property. In February 2017, the new lessees were individuals associated with scouting and the mountain pasture on Rycerzowa, which allowed the shelter to be reopened for tourism in the spring of 2017. From an architectural perspective, "Koliba" preserves the traditional highland style, blending seamlessly into the landscape of the Gorce Mountains, and the building itself is an example of regional architecture. Culturally, the facility is an important element of the local tourist tradition and a meeting place for mountain hiking enthusiasts. It is also worth mentioning the tourist trails that run near "Koliba," such as the trail from Nowy Targ to Łapsowa Niżna Polana, making the location attractive to tourists. An interesting fact is that in the past, "Koliba" served as an experimental site where research was conducted as part of youth educational activities. Today, the facility serves as a rest spot that attracts tourists and mountain hiking enthusiasts, making it a significant point on the map of the Gorce Mountains.
