The "Chata Wuja Toma" (Uncle Tom’s Cabin) tourist shelter is located in the Silesian Beskids at the Karkoszczonka Pass, at an altitude of 715 meters above sea level. The facility operates in a traditional wooden highlander hut built in 1918 by Adam Porębski. Originally, the place was known as "do Adama" (at Adam’s). In the 1970s, it was converted into a student hostel, which operated until 1992 as the Student Tourist Shelter "Karkoszczonka." After this period, the building was used as a support facility for a sledding track, and in 1997, it was leased and later purchased by Magdalena Szechlicka and Tomasz Owczarz, who gave it its current name and significantly expanded the services offered. Today, the shelter offers accommodation in double and quadruple rooms, as well as in year-round cabins. An important part of the facility is the SPA zone, which includes saunas and a hydromassage pool, as well as a training and event hall (Owczarnia) that can accommodate up to 100 people. It is an ideal destination for a short getaway for tourists visiting Szczyrk, offering not only comfortable lodging but also recreational attractions. Interestingly, the shelter is a year-round destination, and the surrounding region abounds with hiking trails, such as routes to Brenna, Szczyrk Centrum, or Malinowska Skała. "Chata Wuja Toma" combines historical and cultural elements with local highlander heritage, making it an attractive destination for tourists and nature enthusiasts.
