Łódź Kaliska

Łódź Kaliska is the second largest railway station in Łódź, featuring six platforms and classified as a Premium category station. It was designed by Czesław Domaniewski and constructed between 1900 and 1902. The station stands out for its Art Nouveau architecture, with a beautiful interior, richly decorated details, and a clock tower. It served as a transfer hub, with a tram line reaching it in 1913. During World War I, the station came under fire, and after the war, it was used as Litzmannstadt Hbf during the German occupation. In 1946, a railway disaster occurred here, resulting in 21 fatalities. The old station building remained in use until the 1980s, when it was closed for reconstruction, and a new facility was opened in 1994. Renovations continued for many years, with the eastern viaduct finally put into operation in 2022, enabling increased train traffic. The station also once housed the Dworcowe Cinema. Historically, Łódź Kaliska Station has appeared in numerous Polish films, becoming a significant cultural landmark in Łódź and a witness to many events tied to the city's history. Today, it remains a key transportation hub, serving both rail and bus networks.
