wikipedia
Łękawica is a village located in the Masovian Voivodeship, within the Mińsk County, distinguished by its rich history and tradition. In the 16th century, it was a noble village in the Garwolin County. Today, its administrative boundaries have changed, and between 1975 and 1998, Łękawica belonged to the Siedlce Voivodeship. The village is situated in one of the highest areas of the municipality, near a county road, and covers an area of 315 hectares. According to data from 2007, it is inhabited by 169 people. The residents of Łękawica are affiliated with the Roman Catholic parish of St. Stanislaus the Bishop and Martyr in Siennica. The name of the village likely derives from the word "łęgi," referring to the bends of a stream flowing in the area, while some historians suggest a connection to the no longer existing river Łękawa. The first mention of Łękawica appeared in 1528 in a document concerning the parish in Janów. In the 19th century, the village already had a defined structure of buildings and population, and information about it was included in the Geographical Dictionary of the Kingdom of Poland. World War II brought a tragic history to Łękawica. After a German scout was shot, the village was almost completely burned down, and many residents were executed. After the war, an elementary school operated here, and between 1999 and 2007, the school building housed a Family Children's Home. The village features monuments commemorating the tragic events of World War II and a Mariavite chapel. The Łękawica Volunteer Fire Department has been active since 1928 and is equipped with modern gear. Łękawica is a place with a rich history that has survived many difficult moments while simultaneously developing the socio-cultural life of its residents.
