Żmigród

The Żmigród Municipality, located in the Trzebnica County of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, is an urban-rural municipality with its seat in the town of Żmigród. The area of the municipality stands out for its natural wealth, including three nature reserves: Olszyny Niezgodzkie, Radziądz, and part of the Stawy Milickie (Milicz Ponds). The Olszyny Niezgodzkie Reserve protects natural swamp forests along the Ługa River, while Radziądz encompasses a deciduous forest typical of the European oak-hornbeam forest type. The Stawy Milickie is a unique wetland area, covering 5,324 hectares, which constitutes an important ecosystem on both a national and European scale. The municipality also features an interesting land structure, with 56% of its area dedicated to agricultural use and 29% covered by forests, fostering biodiversity and environmental protection. According to demographic data, the population was 14,808 in 2016, which slightly decreased to 14,635 by 2020. An interesting fact is that Żmigród was part of various administrative divisions throughout history, including belonging to the Wrocław Voivodeship between 1975 and 1998.
