The Archaeological and Historical Museum in Stargard, which is a cultural institution of the Stargard municipality, is housed in historic Baroque townhouses and a guardhouse at the Old Town Market Square, as well as in the Bastion at the Weavers' Tower. The museum was opened in 1960, initially in the Pyrzycka Gate, and after the reconstruction of the western frontage of the Market Square, it moved to the guardhouse in 1966. In 1978, a branch was opened in the Bastion, where military exhibits were displayed. After a renovation in 2013, the museum's structure was changed, and its name was changed to the Archaeological and Historical Museum in Stargard. The new exhibitions present the history of Stargard up to the 1920s. The museum's history dates back to 1908 when the first Heimatmuseum was established in Stargard, whose collections were evacuated in 1945. The museum houses rich archaeological collections, numismatics, works by local artists, as well as incunabula. The museum's structure includes a library with approximately 10,000 volumes related to Stargard and Western Pomerania. An interesting fact is that the museum takes care of the city's monuments, including the Pyrzycka Gate and the fairy-tale Red Sea Tower, which testify to Stargard's rich history. The museum combines educational and cultural aspects by organizing exhibitions and events that attract history and art enthusiasts.
