Aviation Institute

The Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Aviation, based in Warsaw, has been in operation since 1926 and specializes in research and engineering services in the aviation and aerospace sectors. Since its inception, the institute has played a key role in the Polish aviation industry, testing and certifying aircraft, including pre-war designs such as the PZL P.11 and RWD. After World War II, the institution resumed its activities under a new name – the Main Institute of Aviation, later renamed the Institute of Aviation. In the post-war years, the institute focused on aircraft design, including the legendary MiG-15 and the TP-1 Iskra, as well as materials and structural research related to aviation. International cooperation became a significant aspect of its operations, with a particular emphasis on partnerships with giants such as Boeing, Airbus, and General Electric, which significantly expanded the institute's capabilities in research and innovation. Architecturally, the institute is housed in historic buildings in Warsaw's Okęcie district, adding cultural value as a place where the history of Polish aviation meets modern technology. The institute also organizes "Night at the Institute of Aviation," an educational event that attracts thousands of visitors, and undertakes initiatives aimed at promoting engineering careers. It is also worth mentioning its scientific and social activities, such as research on cryogenic structures on Mars and educational programs for young people, which demonstrate its commitment to the development of the aviation sector in Poland.
