wikipedia
Bęsia is a settlement located in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, historically associated with the Warmia region. Its history dates back to 1379, when it was mentioned as a Prussian village and was granted town rights under Magdeburg Law in 1389. In the past, the village served as the seat of the Reszel and Biskupiec districts. Bęsia developed a well-known spa resort throughout East Prussia, founded in 1825 by District Administrator Carl Otto Benjamin von Knobloch, which attracted visitors due to its iron-rich waters. The small town was famous for its picturesque lake, numerous recreational attractions, and culinary offerings. During its heyday, Bęsia was a meeting place for many notables, offering luxurious accommodation and a variety of services. Modern-day Bęsia is also known for the activities of the Agricultural Regional Experimental Station, established in 1958, which promoted agricultural progress in the region. The palace in Bęsia, built between 1720 and 1730, is one of the key historical landmarks, alongside a Dutch-type brick windmill and a four-building farmhouse (czworak). Today, although the palace is damaged and in poor technical condition, it remains an important element of the region's cultural heritage. The settlement also boasts a rich cultural tradition, with the activities of various associations and educational institutions. Over the years, the population has grown, and Bęsia has gained the status of a settlement with developed infrastructure, including a primary school and kindergarten. Bęsia combines a rich architectural, historical, and cultural heritage, attracting the attention of history and tourism enthusiasts.
