wikipedia
Bałdy is a settlement located in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, within the Purda commune, boasting a rich history dating back to the 14th century when it was granted to knights and nobility. The village is closely associated with the Warmian bishops, who were traditionally welcomed in Bałdy upon entering the diocese, lending it significant cultural importance. Remnants of the historic bishop's route can be found here, and in 2006, the Avenue of Bishops was established along this path—a tourist attraction featuring plaques dedicated to the bishops of Warmia and a gate symbolizing the "entrance to Warmia." Bałdy offers nature trails, a research station operated by the University of Warmia and Mazury, and annual cultural events such as the Warmian Tradition Fair. Historically linked to a noble estate, the residents of Bałdy specialized in animal husbandry and agriculture, while also utilizing natural resources through activities like tar production and operating a watermill. The village is also distinguished by a beautiful avenue of old linden trees, which was restored in 2006. Despite political changes after 1945, Bałdy has retained its importance as a research and cultural hub. It is also worth noting the local rural traditions tied to rituals and historical episcopal figures who influenced the region's development.
