wikipedia
Barcice, a mountain holiday village in southern Poland, located in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Nowy Sącz County, is known for both its attractive natural conditions and rich history. The settlement, which has its roots in the 13th century, was initially a royal center and gave rise to many settlements, including Przysietnica and Rytr. Over time, new villages emerged in the Barcice area, and the Barcice starostwo, composed of lands along the Poprad River, was for centuries under the influence of both royal authority and local magnates. Over the centuries, the village witnessed many events, including major fires and wars, which contributed to changes in its character. From an architectural standpoint, the wooden church, founded by Władysław Warneńczyk, stands out; it survived until the 1880s, when it was destroyed. Today, Barcice is also famous for its sports traditions, thanks to initiatives such as the construction of ski facilities. Interestingly, the surrounding forests offer opportunities for picking berries and mushrooms, and the village itself provides convenient areas for fishing. Barcice is also home to a Volunteer Fire Department established in 1927, which operates within the national rescue and firefighting system. Additionally, the residents cultivate local traditions by organizing festivals, such as the Pannonica Folk Festival, which attracts tourists from all over Poland. Barcice is also a place where characteristic seals with symbols related to the veneration of local patrons have survived, testifying to the deep religiosity and the community's connection with history. It is worth mentioning personalities associated with Barcice, such as Andrzej Bobola, a Polish saint, and Jan Gryźlak, a pioneer of rural sports, which adds cultural color to the village. Thanks to its rich heritage and beautiful landscapes, Barcice is an attractive place for relaxation and exploring local history.
