The Municipality of Banie, located in the central part of Gryfino County, is a rural municipality with its administrative seat in the village of Banie. It covers 11% of the county's area and, according to data from December 31, 2019, was inhabited by 6,308 people. The municipality has a variable demographic profile, with a dominant working-age population, and its indicators for natural population growth and unemployment rates point to demographic challenges.
Banie lies within the Myslibórz Lake District and the Wełtyń Plain, and is traversed by the Tywa River, which provides opportunities for water tourism, including kayaking routes. Two tourist trails have been marked out in the municipality, encouraging recreational activities. Interestingly, the area is diverse, with 26% covered by forests and 60% dedicated to agricultural use.
Banie, whose historical character is reflected in its architecture, held town status from 1230 to 1945—an intriguing aspect of its past. Administratively, the municipality is organized into village districts (sołectwa), such as Babinek, Lubanowo, and Swobnica. Until December 31, 1998, Banie belonged to Szczecin Voivodeship.
The municipality’s international cooperation with Gerswalde in Germany demonstrates its openness to cultural and social development. Financially, in 2016, Banie recorded revenues of 26.7 million PLN and expenditures of 25.1 million PLN, indicating a stable budget.
