Bełżec is a village in the Lublin Voivodeship, historically recognized as a town that received its city rights in 1607. Located in the Roztocze region, near Tomaszów Lubelski, Bełżec has a rich history dating back to the 16th century when it was established on the lands of the village of Przeworsk. The village witnessed numerous historical events, including invasions by Tatars, Cossacks, and Swedes. During World War II, Bełżec became the site of a death camp for Jews, where approximately 450,000 people lost their lives. Today, Bełżec is the seat of the Roman Catholic parish of the Mother of God, Queen of Poland, and is home to the Museum and Memorial Site, which honors the victims of the Holocaust. The village features interesting architecture, including a parish church and an Orthodox church. Bełżec also boasts a 19th-century chapel of St. John of Nepomuk, as well as monuments commemorating local heroes and war victims. The village is culturally active, organizing local events and hosting the "Orkan" People's Sports Club, which has been operating since 1928. Bełżec is situated along National Road 17 and Voivodeship Road 865, ensuring good accessibility and transportation links.
