The Buk municipality, located in the Greater Poland Voivodeship within the Poznań County, is an urban-rural commune with its seat in the town of Buk. In 2020, the municipality had a population of 12,610, which dropped to 7,084 by 2021. Covering an area of 90.58 km², it lies within the Poznań Lake District, with the highest point near Józefowo (107 meters above sea level) and the lowest in Dakowy Suche (75 meters above sea level). Since 2018, the mayor has been Paweł Adam.
The municipality has a relatively small forested area of 329 hectares, accounting for just 3.6% forest cover. Its territory includes parts of the watersheds of the East Mogilnica and the Samica Stęszewska rivers, and the eastern edge is home to Lake Niepruszewskie. Buk boasts numerous historical monuments, including 18th and 19th-century churches, a synagogue, a former courthouse, the Holy Spirit Hospital, and the Palace of the Poznań Bishops.
