wikipedia
Bibice is a village located in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, within Kraków County, in the municipality of Zielonki. It lies in the valley of the Bibiczanka stream and borders the city of Kraków. The area is situated at the junction of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland and the Nida Basin, with parts of it located within the Landscape Park of the Kraków Valleys (Dolinki Krakowskie). Historically, the village had a diverse background, having been owned by the Norbertine Monastery in Zwierzyniec and playing a key role through its colonization under German law in the 13th century. The inhabitants were engaged in agriculture, animal husbandry, and crafts; the social structure included landowners, free settlers, and servants. For centuries, Bibice struggled with a lack of rights and conflicts with its female owners. The village's history is documented in records concerning its agrarian economy and the steadily increasing burdens placed on its residents. Several historical monuments have been preserved here, including an auxiliary armored fort listed in the register of historical monuments. The village is also known for its interesting folklore and traditions, such as the *pucheroki* custom associated with the Kraków Academy. In the 20th century, Bibice underwent numerous changes, including destruction during both World Wars and dynamic post-war development, which involved the restoration of educational activities and infrastructure expansion, leading to population growth. Today, the village has primary schools and kindergartens, and its cultural life is enriched by numerous local events and traditions. It is also noteworthy that Bibice experienced dynamic population growth, which contributed to the establishment of new educational and cultural institutions.
