wikipedia
Bierkowice is a rural administrative unit (sołectwo) in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, within Kłodzko County, situated on the border of the Kłodzko Valley and the Bardzkie Mountains, approximately 5 km northwest of Kłodzko. Administratively, the village has undergone various changes, belonging to different communal structures (gromadas) and, since 1973, to the municipality of Kłodzko. Bierkowice has retained its historic urban layout, featuring the characteristic traits of a linear village (ulicówka). Notable architectural landmarks include an 18th/19th-century manor house, which now serves as a primary school, a 19th-century inn, and a Crucifixion group sculpture. The village has stable demographics with a growing population and is primarily agricultural. In 1978, there were 63 farms, although their number has since gradually declined. Consequently, many residents work in industry and services in nearby towns. Bierkowice is home to a gravel quarry and a concrete plant. A significant cultural aspect is the primary school, which operates as a youth hostel during summer vacations. The village is part of the Catholic parish of St. John the Baptist. The history of Bierkowice dates back to the 14th century when it was founded by Hinko of Dubá and long belonged to the von Maltwitz family. Despite suffering during the Hussite Wars and World War II, Bierkowice has maintained its agricultural character. After the war, in 1945, it became part of Poland, which contributed to population growth. An interesting fact is that the busy provincial road 381 and the railway line No. 286 pass through Bierkowice. Passenger service on the railway, after a hiatus, was resumed in 2009. Despite this, the village has not gained significant tourist importance itself, serving more as a base for exploring nearby attractions. Due to its architectural and cultural heritage, as well as its history, Bierkowice represents an interesting example of rural life in Poland.
