The Big Bang is an impressive art installation by Tomasz Urbanowicz, an architect and master glass craftsman, located in the central part of the University of Białystok campus. The sphere, with a diameter of 250 cm, symbolizes the birth of the universe and is constructed from nine sheets of glass of diverse shapes, evoking galaxies and lunar surfaces. These elements are mounted on a steel mesh that chaotically penetrates the sphere, lifting it approximately 50 cm above a concrete base. The base features blue LED lighting that enhances the visual effect.
The project aligns with the vision of Professor Marek Budzyński, who designed the academic campus with four streets representing fundamental sciences: biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. The central square was intended to symbolize the Synthesis of Sciences, and The Big Bang, together with the four glass portals of the surrounding buildings, forms a cohesive whole.
The sculpture is not only a work of art but also attracts attention through its modern design and its ability to engage visitors, encouraging reflection on the nature of the universe. The installation was created in the ARCHIGLASS studio in Wrocław, highlighting the region's artistic and craft heritage.
The sculpture enriches the campus space and serves as a cultural landmark, inspiring students and researchers across various scientific disciplines.
