Bisztynek is an urban-rural municipality in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, located in Bartoszyce County, with its seat in the town of Bisztynek. Between 1975 and 1998, the municipality was part of the Olsztyn Voivodeship. According to data from the National Census, in 2011 the municipality had 6,829 inhabitants, and by the end of 2019 this number had decreased to 6,299. The municipality covers an area of 203.55 km², of which 80% is agricultural land and 10% is forested, making it an important agricultural region in the county. The municipality includes numerous villages such as Dąbrowa, Księżno, and Lądek, as well as protected areas, including the Polder Sątopy-Samulewo Nature Reserve, which is a breeding ground for water and marsh birds. It is also worth noting the Guber River Valley Landscape Protected Area. The region is characterized by a rich history and tradition, as well as cultural diversity, with many towns and settlements that reflect its heritage. These include larger towns like Bisztynek, as well as smaller settlements such as Biegonity or Krzewina.
