wikipedia
Bolczów Castle, located about 15 km from Jelenia Góra, is an example of medieval defensive architecture in the Rudawy Janowickie mountains. Its construction began in 1375 and is attributed to a courtier of Duke Bolko II. The castle was built between two granite rocks, surrounded by walls, with a square tower, two courtyards, and various buildings, including a residential house and a chapel. The castle underwent many transformations, the most significant of which took place in the 15th and 16th centuries, when embrasures, a bastion, and artillery-friendly walls were added. In the 17th century, the structure suffered damage during the Thirty Years' War, and after a fire in 1645, it fell into ruin. In the 19th century, inspired by growing tourist interest, Count Stolberg-Wernigerode initiated reconstruction work, which led to the establishment of an inn on the old foundations. The castle is currently managed by the State Forests and is part of the Jelenia Góra Valley Cultural Park. Several hiking trails are located there, attracting history enthusiasts and nature lovers. The castle ruins are not only a testament to the region's rich history but also an attractive destination for tourists, including those interested in local culture and history.
