Borek Wielkopolski

Borek Wielkopolski is an urban-rural municipality in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, located in the Gostyń County, with its seat in Borek Wielkopolski. Its promotional slogan, "Entrepreneurship, Nature, Hospitality," reflects local values and attachment to tradition and nature. The history of the municipality dates back to the Bronze and Iron Ages, with the oldest traces of settlement found in Jawory and Jeżewo. An interesting historical point is the stronghold on the left bank of the Obra River, which served as a border fortress in the 13th century. In the 17th century, the site was used by the Swedes during the Deluge. The municipality went through various administrative stages; in 1793 it was annexed by Prussia, and in 1918 it returned to Poland. The diverse terrain and river valleys contribute to the natural character of the municipality, where forests cover 15% of the area, and surface water is scarce, compensated for by the Jeżewo retention reservoir. The economy of Borek Wielkopolski is primarily based on agriculture, with agricultural land constituting 78% of the area. The municipality is home to around 760 individual farms and several larger agricultural enterprises. Culture in Borek Wielkopolski thrives thanks to the Municipal Cultural Center, which offers a variety of activities and organizes events such as the Days of Borek. The municipality has three well-known folk ensembles, including the "Borkowiacy" group. Education in the municipality includes a kindergarten, primary schools, and a high school. Infrastructure is well-developed; the municipality lies along several national and regional roads, and a city bypass was built in 2007. Borek Wielkopolski is characterized by a rich tradition, including the activities of the Shooting Brotherhood and a folk sports club. An interesting fact is that the municipality has over 350 members of volunteer fire departments.
