Borne Sulinowo, known until the end of 1994 as the municipality of Silnowo, is an urban-rural municipality in the Szczecinek County, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, with its seat in the town of Borne Sulinowo. The municipality covers an area of 484.47 km², which constitutes 27.4% of the county's total area. The municipality has an interesting demographic structure, with 9,840 inhabitants according to data from the end of 2016 and a population density of 20.3 people per km². Within its boundaries lies the town as well as numerous villages, settlements, and forest hamlets. The municipality was established in 1993 by merging the territories of the former Soviet military training ground and the area of the Silnowo municipality. From a historical perspective, the area also contains remnants of the Pomeranian Wall and the abandoned town of Kłomino. The municipality's location near Lake Pile and Lake Komorze, as well as the Drawsko Landscape Park, favors tourism, offering access to two kayaking routes. The municipality is known for its diverse landscape, situated at the junction of the Szczecinek and Drawsko lake districts, creating favorable conditions for active recreation. The local architecture is also noteworthy, including public utility buildings and tourist infrastructure that attract visitors, resulting in the collection of local fees in attractive localities. Despite its military heritage, Borne Sulinowo is transforming into a place conducive to recreation and relaxation, and the municipality actively promotes tourism development and the preservation of local traditions.
