wikipedia
Brzeźnica is a rural municipality located south of the Vistula River, in close proximity to Oświęcim, Kraków, and Wadowice. The municipality comprises 13 villages and one settlement without village status—Bachorowice—with its administrative seat located in the town of Brzeźnica. The history of the municipality dates back to 1934, when a collective municipality was formed from 14 individual rural communes. During World War II, Brzeźnica became part of the General Government, where the German occupiers altered the municipal boundaries by annexing several districts from neighboring municipalities. After the war, the municipality was restored to its original composition, with the additional district of Wyźrał. In 1954, as a result of administrative reforms, the municipality was dissolved, only to be reestablished on January 1, 1973, encompassing most of its historical territories, although some districts were incorporated into neighboring municipalities. Brzeźnica Municipality boasts a strong local identity that nurtures the traditions and customs of its residents. The area features diverse architecture, including traditional rural houses and religious buildings that reflect the local cultural heritage. Surrounded by picturesque landscapes, the municipality is an attractive destination for nature lovers and those seeking active recreation. Demographically, as of December 31, 2017, the municipality had a population of 10,285. Neighboring municipalities, such as Czernichów, Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, Skawina, Spytkowice, Tomice, and Wadowice, contribute to regional cooperation and cultural exchange. Brzeźnica Municipality combines rich history, traditions, beautiful landscapes, and vibrant community life, making it a noteworthy location on the map of Lesser Poland.
