Burzenin is a rural commune in the Sieradz County, Łódź Voivodeship, with a rich history and unique demographic and economic characteristics. The seat of the commune is the town of Burzenin. Historically, until 1953, the commune was part of the Majaczewice municipality. Between 1975 and 1998, Burzenin belonged to the Sieradz Voivodeship. According to data from June 30, 2004, the commune had a population of 5,714. Its total area is 118.96 km², of which 71% is agricultural land and 23% is forested, making it an agricultural region with significant green spaces. The Burzenin commune covers approximately 7.98% of the total area of Sieradz County. In terms of natural resources, the commune includes part of the "Złoczew" lignite deposit, with estimated reserves of around 490 million tons. Plans for its exploitation are scheduled for the years 2025–2045, and the extracted coal is expected to be transported to the Bełchatów Power Plant, likely via conveyor belts. The Burzenin commune consists of numerous villages, such as Antonin, Będków, Biadaczew, and Majaczewice, as well as smaller settlements like Działy and Waszkowskie. It borders the communes of Brzeźnio, Konopnica, Sieradz, Widawa, Zapolice, and Złoczew. The Burzenin commune, with its blend of rich cultural traditions and the dynamic development of natural resource deposits, is an interesting place from both historical and contemporary perspectives.
