Bydgoszcz Główna railway station is one of the largest railway stations in Poland, holding Premium status in the PKP classification. Its history dates back to 1851, when the first station building was opened in connection with the construction of the Prussian Eastern Railway. The station has undergone numerous expansions and modernizations, including significant changes in 1861, 1870, 1910–1915, and 1965–1972, when it was given a modern appearance. After a fire in 1910, a massive, cuboid building with a distinctive clock on the roof was constructed. The last major renovation took place between 2014 and 2015, during which the old station was refurbished and a new building with a modern glass facade was added. The station also features elevated platforms and underground passages with new elevators, improving accessibility for people with disabilities. The station's history includes fascinating events, such as the grand opening ceremony of the Eastern Railway section attended by King Frederick William IV of Prussia, as well as cultural events like concerts celebrating railway anniversaries. The station plays a vital role in transportation, serving numerous bus and tram lines and connecting key railway routes, such as the coal trunk line and connections to Poznań. Nearby attractions include Pesa, a rail vehicle manufacturer, and former institutions like the station post office. Bydgoszcz Główna not only serves transport functions but also forms an important part of the city's landscape and history. In 2022, it was named after Marian Rejewski, further strengthening its significance in Polish railway tradition.
