Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology named after Jan and Jędrzej Śniadecki (PBŚ) is the oldest public university in Bydgoszcz, established in 1951 as the Evening School of Engineering. Throughout its history, the university has undergone numerous transformations, changing its structures and names, and in 2021, it adopted its current name, Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology. Today, it comprises seven faculties, six of which are authorized to confer doctoral degrees. The university is known for its emphasis on scientific research in the fields of technology and natural sciences, as well as its collaboration with local industry. In 2022, it educated approximately 5,000 students across 34 degree programs. The university organizes numerous cultural and educational events, such as the Bydgoszcz Science Festival and the University of the Third Age. The university’s buildings, including modern teaching facilities, exemplify contemporary architecture and are designed to meet the needs of students and academic staff. It is worth mentioning that among its alumni are renowned specialists, such as the designer of the Olympic Stadium in Sydney and a well-known cryptologist. The university boasts numerous achievements, and its development has faced various challenges, including economic crises, which led to the relocation of some faculties and structural reorganization. Recent years have seen intensive development of the teaching infrastructure, as well as the introduction of new fields of study, such as medicine, marking the first such step in the university’s history. Plans are also underway to expand the infrastructure, including a new academic sports center and an innovative teaching building, further strengthening the position of Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology as an important center of education and research in Poland.
