wikipedia
The Ignacy Jan Paderewski Bydgoszcz International Airport (IATA code: BZG) is a key airport in Poland, located 3 km from the city center. Its history dates back to World War I, when plans for the construction of the airport began in 1911. Opened for civilian traffic in 1920, it served military, cultural, and transportation functions from the very beginning, supporting various training units. During the interwar period, Bydgoszcz was an important aviation hub, with regular connections to many Polish cities and flight schools that trained numerous renowned pilots. After World War II, the airport was modernized and rebuilt, and in the 1990s, civilian flights were reinstated. Architecturally, the airport terminal was opened in 2004 and covers an area of 7,000 m², handling up to 500,000 passengers annually. Today, the airport offers domestic and international connections, with an expected increase in traffic following the COVID-19 pandemic. An interesting fact is that in 2008, Bydgoszcz recorded a record-breaking passenger growth of 54.07%, making it one of the fastest-growing airports in Poland. In 2023, the airport ranks as the 10th largest in Poland, with plans for further development, including the construction of a photovoltaic farm.
