wikipedia
The cable car to Kasprowy Wierch, initiated by Aleksander Bobkowski in the 1930s, was a major technological investment intended to connect Zakopane with Kasprowy Wierch. The construction was handled by the company "Towarzystwo Budowy i Eksploatacji Kolei Linowej Zakopane (Kuźnice) - Kasprowy Wierch," and work began in August 1935. It was completed in a record time of 7 months, a significant achievement for that era. The cable car consists of two sections: from Kuźnice to Myślenickie Turnie and from Myślenickie Turnie to Kasprowy Wierch, with cabins moving on separate cables and accommodating up to 60 passengers at a time. The station architecture, designed by Anna and Aleksander Kodelski, blends modern elements with the requirements of the mountain landscape, making the investment not only a technical innovation but also a symbol of the Second Polish Republic. The construction cost over 3.5 million złoty, and the cable car quickly recouped its costs before the outbreak of World War II. In 2006, it celebrated its 70th anniversary, and in 2007, it underwent a comprehensive renovation that increased its capacity and improved its operation. New cabins with panoramic windows were introduced, and the control system was upgraded to a computerized one. The upper station building houses a restaurant and a ski equipment storage facility, making it a popular destination for tourists. Interestingly, the cable car has already transported over 38 million passengers. The 2007 modernization brought modern solutions, such as new machinery and increased speed, which positively impacted travel comfort. The Kasprowy Wierch cable car not only combines technical ingenuity with architectural beauty but also remains a key point on Poland's tourist map, while preserving the ecological and cultural values of Tatra National Park.
