Chmielnik is an urban-rural municipality located in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, within Kielce County, with the town of Chmielnik serving as its administrative seat. Between 1975 and 1998, the municipality belonged to the former Kielce Voivodeship. At the end of 2010, its population was 11,483, which decreased to 11,264 by December 31, 2019. The municipality covers an area of 142.19 km², of which the town of Chmielnik occupies 7.8 km², while the remaining land consists mainly of agricultural and forest areas (75% and 16%, respectively, according to 2007 data). Historically, on March 11, 1924, a part of the municipality called Blich I was incorporated into Chmielnik, marking an interesting episode in its history. The municipality comprises 24 villages, such as Borzykowa, Grabowiec, and Suliszów, which reflect the local culture and traditions. Historically, Chmielnik has been shaped by diverse influences, visible in both its architecture and cultural heritage. An interesting fact is that the rural areas of the municipality are known for their rich agricultural traditions and local festivals that promote regional products and folk art. Chmielnik borders municipalities such as Busko-Zdrój, Gnojno, Morawica, and Pińczów, fostering cooperation and cultural exchange between regions.
