Chmielno is a rural commune in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, within the Kartuzy County, established in 1975. The administrative seat of the commune is the village of Chmielno, which is also one of its 10 village councils (sołectwa). The commune is distinguished by its rich cultural heritage, including the presence of the Kashubian language, which, under the 2005 legislation, can be used alongside the official language. As of December 31, 2019, the commune had a population of 7,805, with 34.8% of residents speaking Kashubian, highlighting its bilingual character. The land use structure consists of 60% agricultural land and 13% forests, with a total area of 79.18 km², accounting for 7.07% of the Kartuzy County's territory. Chmielno borders the communes of Kartuzy, Sierakowice, and Stężyca, providing access to diverse tourist attractions. The Kashubian Landscape Park, which runs through the commune, serves as an important nature conservation area, protecting the region's unique natural and landscape values. The commune also features an interesting demographic structure, as reflected in the age pyramid of its inhabitants.
