wikipedia
The Blessed Michał Kozal Church in Gniezno is a Neo-Gothic temple built between 1894 and 1895 as a chapel for the "Dziekanka" psychiatric hospital, designed by architect Bruno Schulz. It is a simultaneous church, used both by the Catholic parish of Blessed Michał Kozal and the Evangelical parish from Poznań. The building features unusual architecture, as it has two chancels and was constructed from red brick on a rectangular plan. The church contains numerous rose windows and sacristy rooms, and on its eastern wall, there are plaques commemorating the victims of World War II and the tragically deceased Father Witold Ceglarek. The history of the church is rich yet challenging; from its beginnings, it faced technical problems, including fires and structural damage, which led to its temporary closure in 2012. In 2013, a break-in occurred, resulting in the theft of valuable items. After necessary renovations, partially funded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the building still requires further work. Culturally, the church has been a venue for important ecumenical events, including the first ecumenical service in 2003. It held significant importance for local religious communities until its closure, when Evangelical services were moved to a parish chapel. The temple and its history stand as a testament to the region's multiculturalism and cooperation among different denominations.
