wikipedia
The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Anthony of Padua in Milejów is a historic architectural monument, built between 1855 and 1859 through the efforts of the Rostworowski family. Its history dates back to earlier centuries, when an Orthodox church existed in Milejów, and Catholics were forced to use chapels in distant parishes until the construction of the wooden Chapel of St. Anne in 1739. The initiative to build the church was taken by Helena Chrapowicka née Suffczyńska, but Marianna Rostworowska née Jansen played a significant role in its realization. Designed by Konstanty Hendigery, the church draws attention with its eclecticism, featuring Neo-Romanesque and Neo-Gothic elements. The interior is adorned with numerous works of art, including the Icon of the Mother of God of the Tender Heart, a classicist altar, and stained-glass windows. The church boasts rich furnishings, including precious relics of saints such as St. John Paul II and St. Andrew Bobola. The bell tower houses bells, the oldest of which were stolen during both world wars. Additionally, the church has a crypt where the founders and members of the Rostworowski family are buried. In the early 21st century, the church was expanded with a new altar, and its historic elements were restored. Key events in the parish's history include its consecration in 1859, as well as numerous processions and traditions associated with the relics. Due to its rich past and valuable cultural treasures, the church plays a vital role in the life of the local community.
