wikipedia
The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Stanislaus in Narew is a Roman Catholic parish church located in the town of Narew, in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, belonging to the Hajnówka Deanery of the Drohiczyn Diocese. The wooden structure of the church was built between 1738 and 1748, likely under the direction of Father Ludwik Ignacy de Riaucour. The church underwent several renovations, including in 1851, 1857, and 1860, supervised by Father Felicjan Szakien. During wartime, including the Polish-Bolshevik War in 1920 and World War II in 1944, the church was repeatedly damaged by shelling, necessitating subsequent restorations, particularly through the efforts of Father Stanisław Łukaszewicz. In 2011, thanks to Monsignor Zbigniew Niemyjski, the church received a new copper roof. Within the church's cultural heritage, there are valuable artifacts, including two panel paintings depicting scenes of the Crucifixion from the second half of the 16th century and a 17th-century painting of the Hodigitria Mother of God. Another significant element is a 16th-century sandstone tombstone depicting a knight leaning on a spear, as well as a statue of St. Stanislaus the Bishop and Martyr placed in the altar, which has been there since 1905. As an important example of local religious architecture, the church reflects the rich history and traditions of the region while serving as a vital place of worship for the parish community.
