The Church of the Holy Cross in Istebna, located in the Kubalonka district, is a significant element of the cultural heritage of the Silesian region. Built in 1779, it initially served the parish in Przyszowice as a cemetery church. Its history was interrupted by destruction during World War II when, in January 1945, the church was severely damaged by artillery shells, resulting in the destruction of the roof, the main nave, and the polychrome decorations. Rebuilt between 1947 and 1949 by the faithful, the church was handed over to the Istebna parish in 1957 and reassembled in Kubalonka in 1958. Although the communist authorities restricted its liturgical functions, the church served as a museum facility, showcasing sacred art of Upper Silesia until 1967. In 1971, a rectory was established here, and since 1983, it has served as a parish church. Architecturally, it is a wooden log structure, single-naved and towerless, with the chancel facing north. It is covered with a gable shingle roof and features a front porch and a Baroque bell tower. The interior is adorned with Baroque furnishings, including the main altar from 1779 and a pulpit from 1697 with reliefs of the Evangelists. Pews from the late 17th century and Stations of the Cross from the 19th century have also been preserved. The church is part of the Wooden Architecture Trail, highlighting its artistic and historical value. An interesting fact is the break-ins that occurred in 1988 and 2001, during which valuable elements of the furnishings were stolen. The Church of the Holy Cross is thus not only a witness to a rich history but also an important point on the cultural map of the Beskids.
