Church of the Holy Spirit in Łowicz

The Church of the Holy Spirit in Łowicz is a Roman Catholic temple that plays an important role in the local community, being the oldest preserved religious building in the city. Its history dates back to 1404, when the construction of the parish church for the New Town began. The church's architecture represents the Gothic style, characterized by a single-nave structure and a narrower presbytery. In later years, the building underwent a series of adaptations and expansions; in 1559, a southern chapel was added to the church for the shoemakers' guild, highlighting local craft traditions. In 1620, the tower was erected, and the transformations in 1778 led to the reconstruction of the western facade, which later acquired late Baroque features. In 1904, the tower was extended, influencing the current appearance of the temple. The interior of the church is finished in Baroque and eclectic styles, with rich furnishings dating from the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, reflecting the artistic heritage of the region. As a place of worship, the Church of the Holy Spirit also holds cultural significance, serving as a center for local religious and social events, making it an important part of Łowicz's heritage.
