The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Sosnowiec, built in 1862 with donations from railway workers and local residents, is located next to the Sosnowiec Główny railway station. Known as the "railway church," it reflects the importance of the railway in the region's development. Its history dates back to October 1861, when residents requested permission to build the church, highlighting the needs of the rapidly growing community. Architecturally, the building represents the Neo-Gothic style, featuring a rectangular nave, a pentagonal chancel, and a tower with a gallery. Carefully designed stained-glass windows depict saints, and the interior retains fragments of the original furnishings, including a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and an organ from 1864. The church park houses a historic complex of chapels, including a grotto with a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes, which served as a site for Mass before the church was built. The Parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, established in 1958, maintains features such as a permanent confessional and perpetual adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, while regularly broadcast live Masses connect the community with modernity. The church also features a plaque commemorating Father Franciszek Raczyński, underscoring its cultural significance as a memorial site. Listed as a historic monument in 1997, the church has undergone several conservation efforts in recent years, including the restoration of its Neo-Gothic main altar. Today, the church stands as an important part of Sosnowiec's cultural heritage, harmoniously blending tradition with modernity.
