The Cisek Commune (formerly known as Ciski Commune) is located in the Opole Voivodeship, within the Kędzierzyn-Koźle County, with its administrative seat in the village of Cisek. The commune was established in 1973 through the merger of several local village districts. Between 1975 and 1998, it was part of the Opole Voivodeship in terms of administrative division. Since 2007, the commune has used dual naming for its localities in both Polish and German, reflecting the region's complex cultural heritage, where Polish and German traditions intertwine.
Cisek is a rural commune covering an area of 70.89 km², of which 89% is agricultural land. Between 1992 and 1998, the water supply infrastructure was modernized, and since 1997, a telephone network has been introduced in all village districts. At the end of 2017, the population of the commune was 5,679, accounting for 5.9% of the total population of Kędzierzyn-Koźle County.
An interesting demographic aspect is that during the 2002 national census, more residents declared a non-Polish nationality (3,046 people, primarily German and Silesian) than Polish (2,921 people), highlighting the ethnic diversity of the region. The commune maintains various social institutions, including the Municipal Social Welfare Center, kindergartens, and primary schools, demonstrating a commitment to educational development and social support.
Cisek Commune collaborates with partner cities in Germany, such as Breitungen/Werra and Körperich, fostering cultural exchange and cross-border integration. Other villages within the commune include Byczynica and Biadaczów. It borders other communes, such as Bierawa, Kędzierzyn-Koźle, Kuźnia Raciborska, Polska Cerekiew, Reńska Wieś, and Rudnik, making it part of a diverse regional cultural landscape.
It is also worth noting that for years, the commune has leveraged its cultural heritage as an element of local social identity and a tourist attraction.
