wikipedia
The Coal Mining Museum in Zabrze, established in 1981, is a key cultural institution and a leading center for mining tourism in the Silesian Voivodeship, featuring sites such as the Guido Mine and the Queen Luiza Adit. The museum's main headquarters is located in the historic building of the former county office, constructed in an eclectic style in 1874, with a distinctive stained-glass hall. The museum houses approximately 38,000 exhibits related to the history of mining and mining technology, continuing the tradition of the Union Mining Museum in Sosnowiec. In 1982, the Guido Mining Open-Air Museum was established, and in 2007, it became an independent institution, which initiated the development of various tourist attractions. An interesting fact is the establishment of the Vocational Training Center at the "Zabrze-Bielszowice" Coal Mine, which featured a model adit. The museum conducts educational activities and organizes scientific conferences, and since 2007, it has been publishing the journal "Górnik Polski." In 2019, the revitalization of the Queen Luiza Adit was completed, linking the complex of underground tourist routes with various attractions. The museum offers tours of underground routes, including "The Depths of the Mine" and the "Underground Water Route," as well as a variety of services for tourists and businesses. In 2023, the museum won an award in the Construction of the Year competition for the revitalization of its building, highlighting its importance as a key element of the heritage and tourism of Upper Silesia.
