wikipedia
The Collegium Maximum of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń is an early 20th-century representative building, located at Rapacki Square, near the historic Old Town. Its history dates back to 1897, when the Reichsbank opened its branch in Toruń. In 1905, a decision was made to construct a new headquarters for the growing branch. Designed by Juliusz Habicht in the style of Dutch Renaissance, the building features a three-story structure with a high gabled roof and an intricately decorated facade, highlighted by a gable with an allegory of Fortune. Although interior renovations in the 1970s led to the loss of many original details, subsequent conservation efforts have restored some of the building's initial character. Today, Collegium Maximum houses the University IT Center and the University Museum. Since its transfer to Nicolaus Copernicus University in 2003, the building has gained new representative functions. An interesting fact is that the building survived changes of ownership linked to the operations of various banks, which contributed to naming the square Bankowy (now Rapackiego) as it is known today. The building is listed in the municipal register of historical monuments, underscoring its importance in Toruń's cultural heritage.
