Cvilín, also known as Cwilin, is a hill with an elevation of 441 meters above sea level, located in the Nízký Jeseník range in the southeastern part of Krnov. It features two peaks: the Rear Cvilín Mound (423 m above sea level) with the ruins of Cvilín Castle, and the Front Cvilín Mound (441 m above sea level), which is home to the Baroque pilgrimage Church of the Holy Cross and Our Lady of Sorrows, as well as the stone observation tower Liechtensteinwarte. Designed by Ernst Latzel, the tower was opened in 1903 and originally stood 25 meters tall, with an additional 5-meter turret used for panoramic viewing. Interestingly, the construction of the tower was largely funded by a donation from Prince Johann II of Liechtenstein. After World War II, it suffered damage, and subsequent renovations altered its silhouette. For many years, it was closed to tourists due to antennas installed on it, which were only recently removed, allowing for its reconstruction. The site is now listed as a cultural monument, highlighting its historical and cultural value. Nearby lies the contour line of the Głubczyce Plateau, which is the highest point in the region. Thus, Cvilín holds significant architectural importance in the regional context, and its rich history and pilgrimage functions attract tourists and history enthusiasts alike.
