wikipedia
Czarnia is a rural municipality in the Masovian Voivodeship, Ostrołęka County, with its seat in the town of Czarnia. It was established on July 11, 1931, from the territory of the abolished Wach municipality. The municipality has had an extremely dynamic history, undergoing various administrative reforms. In the interwar period, the municipality was divided into 12 village districts (gromady), and after World War II, it continued to function in a similar form, although it was eventually abolished in 1954 as part of a reform that replaced municipalities with village districts. Reactivated for the first time in 1973, the Czarnia municipality was abolished again in 1976, only to resume operations in 1982 with 9 village councils (sołectwa), including the new village council of Cyk. The municipality of Czarnia has a total area of 92.53 km², of which 60% is agricultural land and 38% is forested, reflecting its natural character and agricultural traditions. As of December 31, 2019, the municipality was home to 2,513 people, indicating stable demographics despite a decline compared to 2004. The municipality is divided into 9 village councils, including Bandysie, Czarnia, Długie, and Michałowo, each with its unique architectural and cultural features. In terms of culture, Czarnia and its residents nurture local traditions, which is evident in the organized events and festivals that attract both locals and tourists. Due to its location in a hilly area, the municipality offers attractive conditions for recreation in a natural setting, making it a friendly place for nature lovers and outdoor activities. Architecturally, the municipality's buildings are diverse, and traditional wooden rural houses often form an interesting part of the landscape. The municipality has been led by many mayors, including the long-serving Czesław Jurga, which may indicate the stability of the local administration. Its proximity to the municipalities of Baranowo, Myszyniec, and Rozogi makes Czarnia part of a broader regional context, which also influences its development and social integration. The municipality is a place with a rich history that has undergone many administrative changes, shaping its current local culture and community.
