Czempiń is an urban-rural municipality located in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, within the Kościan County, with its administrative seat in the town of Czempiń. From 1975 to 1998, the municipality was part of the Poznań Voivodeship. As of December 31, 2019, the population of the municipality was 11,513. The location of the municipality is particularly interesting, as it encompasses the northern part of the buffer zone of the Wielkopolski National Park and the southern section of the General D. Chłapowski Landscape Park. The municipality is well-connected by important transport routes, including the Poznań–Wrocław railway line and National Road No. 5, providing convenient access to Poznań and the A2 motorway.
Czempiń boasts a rich architectural heritage, with historic palace complexes in Czempiń (dating back to 1729), Borowo, Gorzyczki, and Głuchowo. The main historic churches, such as those in Czempiń and Głuchowo, date to the 18th century, while the notable church in Stary Gołębin was built in 1670. The municipality has a cohesive land structure, dominated by agricultural land (79%) and forests (13%). Czempiń covers 19.72% of the total area of Kościan County.
An interesting aspect is the diversity of its villages and settlements, including numerous legally registered forest settlements such as Bieczyny and Piotrkowice. The region is also home to numerous cultural sites, fostering a variety of local initiatives. The municipality borders Brodnica, Kościan, Krzywiń, Mosina, Stęszew, and Śrem, which further enriches its local character and facilitates cooperation with neighboring areas.
