Dębowiec

Dębowiec is a village located in the Silesian Voivodeship, within Cieszyn County, first mentioned in the Latin "Liber fundationis episcopatus Vratislaviensis" from around 1305. Situated on the border of the Cieszyn Foothills, the village neighbors Pruchna, Ochaby, Wiślica, and other localities. Dębowiec boasts a rich history with both Polish and German influences, developing as a knight's village since the 9th century and becoming the ancestral home of the Słop family. Key historical events include the adoption of Lutheranism by its inhabitants in the 16th century, the purchase of the village by Duke Albert of Saxe-Teschen in 1793, and the formation of a militia in 1918 during the Polish-Czechoslovak conflict. After World War II, Dębowiec was reintegrated into Poland, and in 1950, the first agricultural production cooperative was established here. Notable heritage sites include an 18th-19th century granary, the Roman Catholic Church of St. Margaret, and the Evangelical Church of the Savior. Dębowiec is also known for its beautiful landscapes, fish ponds, and natural monuments such as a centuries-old oak tree. The village offers cycling routes and encourages active recreation. Both the Roman Catholic and Evangelical-Augsburg churches are active here, highlighting the region's diverse religious heritage. In 1993, a new school building was opened, providing local children with modern educational facilities. Dębowiec combines a rich history with dynamic development, making it a fascinating destination for tourists.
