wikipedia
Średnica-Maćkowięta is a village in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, within the Wysokie Mazowieckie County, situated on the Mianka River. Settlement in the area dates back to the Mesolithic period, with the first written records of the settlement appearing as early as 1239. In the following centuries, the village was mentioned in documents from the 14th and 15th centuries, which recorded its landowners and its affiliation with the parish in Szepietowo. Heraldic sources from 1581 indicate that Średnica Maćkowięta had its own landowner, Szymon Grzegorzowicz. In the 19th century, the village began to develop, partly due to the construction of a railway line, which improved its infrastructure. Although plans were made to locate a railway station in Średnica, the final decision moved it to Szepietowo, which impacted the village's subsequent development. In the second half of the 19th century, the village witnessed events related to the January Uprising, while demographic growth during the interwar period focused on social activities, including the establishment of agricultural circles and rural housewives' associations. A notable event was the organization of the county harvest festival in 1937, which attracted participation from many local communities. In recent years, the population has remained stable at around 160 people. Średnica-Maćkowięta is also home to several historical landmarks, including a brick railway keeper's house from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and wooden houses from the first half of the 20th century. The village maintains a vibrant cultural life with local initiatives, and its residents actively preserve their traditions. It is worth noting the connections of local inhabitants to history, including notable figures born here, such as Franciszek Średnicki and Tomasz Średnicki, a November Uprising insurgent.
