Dorohusk is a rural municipality located in the Lublin Voivodeship, within Chełm County. Between 1975 and 1998, it belonged to the former Chełm Voivodeship. Although the official seat of the municipal authorities is in Dorohusk, the Municipal Office is actually situated in the nearby locality of Dorohusk-Osada. As of September 30, 2009, the municipality had a population of 6,947. It covers an area of 192.42 km², of which 68% is agricultural land and 17% is forested. Dorohusk Municipality constitutes 10.81% of the total area of Chełm County. The area is home to two nature reserves: part of the Brzeźno Reserve, which protects a carbonate peatland with rare plant species, and part of the Roskosz Reserve, a sanctuary for rare and protected bird species. The municipality includes numerous village districts (sołectwa), such as Barbarówka, Brzeźno, Husynne, and Zalasocze, reflecting its diverse settlement structure. Dorohusk also holds historical significance, with a long tradition visible in its local architecture. The municipality borders Ukraine, which contributes to its cultural diversity and social dynamics. This unique location enriches the region with a blend of Polish and Ukrainian traditions. Notably, the area features extensive natural landscapes where residents and visitors can enjoy rich wildlife and flora. Dorohusk is also known for its peatlands, which are rare in Poland, making it an attractive destination for ecologists and tourists.
