wikipedia
Drogomyśl is a sołectwo (village administration) in the Silesian Voivodeship, within Cieszyn County, located 4 km south of Strumień, on the right bank of the Vistula River. The village lies within the historical boundaries of Cieszyn Silesia and the Upper Vistula Valley. With a population of 2,109 and an area of 14.66 km², the population density is 143.9 people per km². The village was first mentioned in 1452 as Drogomissl, and its name is derived from the presumed owner, Drogomysł. In terms of political history, following the partitions of Poland, the region became part of the Duchy of Cieszyn and later the Habsburg Monarchy until 1918. After World War I, Drogomyśl became a subject of dispute between Poland and Czechoslovakia, and after the conflict ended, it was incorporated into Poland as part of the autonomous Silesian Voivodeship. Drogomyśl is home to valuable architectural monuments, including an Evangelical church built between 1788 and 1797, and an 18th-century palace complex that also includes a 19th-century farm building and a park. The village hosts several religious communities, including the Evangelical-Augsburg Church and the Roman Catholic parish of Our Lady of Częstochowa. Community activities revolve around education—the village has a School and Kindergarten Complex—and the LKS Błyskawica Sports Club, which promotes sports, especially football. An interesting fact is that many notable figures were born in Drogomyśl, such as Jerzy Badura, a Polonia activist, and Jan Kowalczyk, an Olympic champion in equestrian sports. In 1855, a railway station was opened in the village on the line from Trzebinia to Zebrzydowice, and National Road 81 runs through the area. A local natural monument is a pedunculate oak tree. Drogomyśl combines a rich history with vibrant cultural and social life, making it an interesting place on the regional map.
