wikipedia
Dzierżysławice is a village located in the Opole Voivodeship, within the Gmina Głogówek, historically part of Upper Silesia. Its name derives from the Old Polish name Dzierżysław, meaning "one who possesses fame." The village boasts a rich history dating back to the Neolithic era, with the first documented mention in a 1321 record. It originally consisted of two parts: Gräflich Dirschelwitz, which belonged to the administrators of Głogówek, and Freiherrlich Dirschelwitz, owned by Baron von Gruttschreiber. The locality underwent various administrative changes, including becoming part of the Kingdom of Prussia after the First Silesian War. Interestingly, according to the 1921 Upper Silesia plebiscite, an overwhelming majority of its residents (86.8%) voted to remain with Germany. Dzierżysławice features historical landmarks such as the Chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary and monuments dedicated to those who fell in World War I and World War II, highlighting its historical significance. The village community is ethnically diverse, with a German minority and Silesians who speak the Prudnik dialect. The German Circle of Friendship is active here, and local cultural traditions are preserved through the collection of Silesian folk songs. Another advantage of Dzierżysławice is its natural surroundings, warm temperate climate, and access to tourist trails, including cycling routes, which support tourism development. The village has a functioning Volunteer Fire Department, and its security is overseen by local police and the Border Guard due to its proximity to the Czech border.
