Between 1975 and 1998, the municipality was part of the Ciechanów Voivodeship, and its administrative seat is located in the village of Dzierzążnia. According to data from June 30, 2004, the municipality had a population of 3,935 and covered an area of 102.1 km², of which 92% was agricultural land and 2% was forested. The municipality constitutes 7.38% of the area of Płońsk County. In Dzierzążnia and nearby localities, one can find diverse buildings, both rural and maintained in a traditional style. In terms of culture, since 2005, the Association for the Dzierzążnia Commune has been active in the area, engaging in various local initiatives. Additionally, since 2012, the Amicus Association of the Dzierzążnia Commune has been operating, focusing on cooperation and support for local communities. The Dzierzążnia Commune borders other municipalities, such as Baboszewo, Bulkowo, Naruszewo, Płońsk, and Staroźreby. An interesting fact is that the village of Pomianowo-Dzierki does not have the status of a sołectwo (village administrative unit), making it a unique example in the region. In 2014, the demographic structure of the inhabitants was analyzed, allowing for the observation of trends and the needs of the local community. Despite its small area and population, the municipality serves as an example of activity and resident involvement in local development.
