Emigration Museum in Gdynia

The Emigration Museum in Gdynia is a cultural institution established in February 2012 and opened to the public on May 16, 2015. It is housed in the historic building of the Maritime Station, which served as a key transit hub for thousands of Polish emigrants during the interwar period. The museum documents the rich history of Polish emigration to all continents, conducting research and educational activities. Its collections include diverse materials related to emigration, and the Emigrant Archive project gathers and archives written and audiovisual accounts from individuals connected to the theme. The interviews are conducted in collaboration with the Gdynia Film School, highlighting the importance of local initiatives in researching and documenting history. The museum also engages in other cultural projects, such as the comic book *Miasto z widokiem* (A City with a View), which tells the story of Gdynia's early days. Since its opening, the permanent exhibition has attracted significant interest—by the end of 2017, it had been visited by over 400,000 people, with the number of visitors growing each year. Since its inception, the museum has been led by Director Karolina Grabowicz-Matyjas, who oversees its development and operations. The Emigration Museum in Gdynia is an important cultural landmark of the city, blending history with modern forms of exhibition and education.
