wikipedia
Pietna is a village in Poland, located in the Opole Voivodeship, within Krapkowice County, in the historical region of Upper Silesia. It lies in the Racibórz Valley, through which the Osobłoga River flows. The settlement was first historically mentioned in 1297 as Laschic, and its name likely originates from a word meaning "foothill" or "a place with drinking water." Between 1936 and 1945, the village was known as Teichgrund. In the 19th century, Pietna had its own mill, and the Guradzer brothers contributed to the development of the steel industry in the area. The village features several historical monuments, including a chapel of St. Hedwig from 1922 and a cemetery with a funeral chapel dating back to 1822. Local culture is rich; residents maintain traditions such as the "Leading the Bear" custom and harvest festivals. The German Circle of Friendship is also active here. Pietna has gained recognition in village beauty contests, highlighting its architectural and aesthetic qualities. The inhabitants, who speak the Prudnik dialect, belong to the German minority and Silesian community. The village offers agritourism facilities, a rural museum, and sports fields. In terms of security, the Volunteer Fire Department operates here, along with police and Border Guard services, underscoring the strategic importance of its location in a border zone. As an interesting fact, in 2003, Pietna signed a partnership agreement with the German municipality of Mittelhof, reflecting its international connections and willingness to cooperate.
