wikipedia
The Toruń Fortress Museum is one of the seven branches of the District Museum in Toruń and is located in the historic Chełmińska Gate Barracks at 23/25 Generała Sikorskiego Street. The decision to build it was made in 2016, and the adaptation of the facility for museum purposes began in May 2018. Construction work was completed in December 2019, after which the creation of the exhibition began and was finished eight months later. Despite the planned opening in November 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic caused a delay, and the museum opened its doors on June 11, 2021. The museum aims to present the history of the fortress and military artifacts related to the region, and its architecture combines modern solutions with the historical character of the barracks. The exhibitions are carefully designed, showcasing not only military aspects but also daily life in the fortress and the impact of the fortifications on the development of Toruń. An interesting fact is that at the Toruń Fortress Museum, visitors can not only see exhibits related to defense history but also participate in various cultural events, such as workshops, temporary exhibitions, and lectures, which engage both the local community and tourists. The museum is an important part of Toruń's cultural heritage, integrating the city's past with its present.
