Żabi Róg is a village in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, situated on the shore of Lake Żabie. In 2021, it had a population of 1,103 residents and serves as the seat of the local administrative district (sołectwo). The village offers several tourist attractions, including guesthouses and agritourism facilities. Żabi Róg lies along a green cycling route and is close to major tourist destinations such as Lake Narie and the cities of Morąg, Ostróda, Olsztyn, and Elbląg. In the center of the village stands a historic former German school, now operating as a guesthouse, as well as remnants of a German World War I memorial. The area also features remains of an Evangelical cemetery and traces of ancient burial mounds dating back thousands of years. Industrially, Żabi Róg is home to several manufacturing plants producing paving stones and prefabricated building components, along with a gravel pit. In the field of education, the village has a primary school with a public-school library that houses a unique "frog museum." Żabi Róg is a hub for sports activities, particularly floorball (unihockey), and has rich cultural traditions upheld by local associations. The village belongs to a Catholic parish, and its social life is organized by various groups and clubs. The history of Żabi Róg dates back to 1343, with its official foundation under Chełmno law in 1353 under the name Guldindhorn. Over the centuries, the village went through various stages of development, with its inhabitants primarily engaged in agriculture and crafts. After World War II, it was given the Polish name Żabi Róg, combining its pre-war name Horn with local traditions associated with frogs. An interesting fact is that the village has served as inspiration in literature and is the birthplace of renowned journalist and writer Marek Książek. Additionally, the area boasts a beach and an outdoor gym, attracting both tourists and locals. Żabi Róg combines tourist, industrial, educational, and social assets, making it a noteworthy location in the Western Masuria region.
